FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have questions about taking guitar lessons?

How much does it cost to learn guitar?

Lessons are $60 dollars a month. Lessons are 30 minutes long and you'll receive one lesson each week for 4 weeks.

How young is "too young" to take guitar lessons?

I usually have a consultation with the student and parent before I can make a determination as to whether a student is ready to accept responsibility of going through the learning process. I consider the attention span of the student.  It's really important not to bring a child in too early before their comprehension skills have developed properly and loose them to discouragement.

Am I too old to learn how to play guitar?

I love this one! I'm 53 years old. What I've found out in most cases is, some people tend to go into this with an "I'll take a stab at it" attitude. During the course of life we've not achieved the desired results in some areas and haven't bought into the idea that "Yea, I can do this". This is just a bridge that we'll cross and laugh about later.

Do I have to be able to read "Sheet Music"?

No. We'll be using a simplier form of reading music called "Chord Music". Music is a language in itself, so we'll be learning to write and read this language on paper. As we develope our skills, we'll have the knowledge to play without having to read music, unless it's to refresh our memory.

How long does it take to learn guitar?

It's going to vary with each student. Variables include age, amount of practice, student schedules, etc...Ultimately, I'm going to teach you everything that I know. Once we get to that point I'll refer you to an advanced teacher. My 52 week cirriculum will keep you for approximately a year depending on the variables. I've taken lessons for 7 years, however I occasionally will take refresher training to strengthen weak areas.

I have small hands and short fingers. Can I still play the guitar?

Yes you can. There are tecniques and exercises to develop your fingers and hands.

Disabled / Handicapped?

Blind? Loss of a hand? Missing fingers? This is more challenging, but we'd rather try to work with someone than not offer someone the opportunity to play guitar.  Depending on the nature of the disibility, we may be able to work together and find an imaginative way of getting around  them. Ask us and see if we can help.
